WHO IS JODEE SINGZ?

Joanne Dumerand, known by her stage name Jodee Singz, was born on October 18, 1994, and raised in a vibrant Haitian household in Newark, New Jersey. From a young age, Joanne was surrounded by rhythm and soul, beginning her musical journey at just eight years old as a member of her church choir. It was in these early years that the foundation for her artistic expression and spiritual connection to music began to take form.
As she matured and embraced her creativity, Joanne began composing and producing her own songs. Her self-taught ability to play the piano became a sacred outlet—another tool in her evolving artistry. She took her passion to the next level by attending Arts High School in Newark, a prestigious performing arts school known for alumni like Melba Moore, Tisha Campbell, Kat Deluna, and Michael B. Jordan. In 2013, she graduated as a Vocal Major, and a new chapter of her life began.
During her high school years, Joanne competed in major competitions like The X-Factor, advancing to the second round, and the statewide New Jersey Shout Down Drugs contest in 2012 with her original song “Just Say No.” In 2013, she created her official stage name—Jodee Singz—inspired by the initials of her beloved grandparents.
Growing up in a traditional Caribbean household, music was often seen as a passion—not a profession. Like many others in her community, Joanne was encouraged to pursue a more “stable” career, leading her to shift into healthcare in 2017, where she has now served for over six years. But her passion for healing wasn’t limited to clinical work—Jodee began to explore herbal medicine, natural healing, and the powerful connection between the mind, body, and soul.
In 2018, Jodee reconnected with her first love—music. Using her background in Music Theory from her time at Long Island University Brooklyn (2014–2015), she returned to the scene, this time deeply rooted in her Haitian heritage. She began singing Konpa and Zouk, celebrated genres in the Caribbean music world. Jodee went on to perform as a background vocalist for popular bands and artists such as Remix Kingz, Vayb, Shedly Abraham, and collaborated with artists like Mickael Marabou and Wanito.
In 2020, she released her first EP, “Toxic,” featuring standout tracks like “Toxic” and “Siwo Miel.” While the project received praise for its authenticity, Jodee also faced harsh criticism—mainly focused on her body size rather than her talent. The experience, though painful, ignited something deeper within her.
Refusing to let societal beauty standards define her, Jodee boldly began plus-size branding in her content, challenging outdated stereotypes and promoting body positivity. Through her music and online presence, she became a voice for self-love and authenticity. Her journey also led her to research how size and health are often misunderstood, revealing that chronic conditions and weight aren’t always tied to overeating—another layer to her commitment to holistic wellness.
When asked how she stays so grounded in a world that often tries to dim unique voices, Jodee simply responds,
“Society does not make me—I make society.”
Today, Jodee Singz continues to expand her musical reach while also growing her holistic healing practice, using her platform to educate others on the power of herbs, the wisdom of the body, and the healing potential of music.
Her mission is crystal clear:
“Life is a metaphor—I interpret it and express it through music.”
